At Wineport Lodge we recognise that our business has an important role to play in protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations and to help secure the long-term sustainability of the tourism industry.

Car parking and charging stations for electric cars

As part of our continuous attention to our environment and our vision for a greener future, we are excited to announce our new dedicated car parking and charging stations for electric cars. Powered by EasyGo, Ireland’s largest charging network, and easily accessible via the EasyGo App, we’ll get you back on the road fully charged up and ready to go.

Energy efficiency
Our lighting is powered by LED-efficient fittings to minimise our energy usage. We aim to install solar panels to operate all our lighting in the hotel.

Water
We have a still and sparkling water filtration system that we use in the restaurant with reusable glass bottles for each table and we offer filtered water in glass bottles to all our guest rooms, this contributes to our sustainability efforts by reducing the need for single-use plastic water bottles. This helps minimise plastic waste and its associated environmental impact.

Food menu
Where possible, we strive to support local farmers and businesses to support our local community and reduce the environmental impact associated with transportation. Our menu features items that are all in season.

Eggs and Chicken: Lawlor Food Athlone – a family-run business that have been operating for the last 50 years.
Fruit and Veg: Behan’s fruit and veg Athlone – a family-run business who are passionate about sourcing its produce from local farmers.
Pork: Horan’s Pork shop Athlone
Beef: The award-winning Certified Hereford Beef – Suppliers are Irish beef farmers who produce Hereford cattle grazed on Ireland’s lush green pastures which meet the exacting standards of the Bord Bia Quality Assurance Scheme and the breed-specific requirements to qualify for inclusion.

Products
Our spa signature treatments are performed using the Irish skincare brand VOYA based in Co. Sligo.
We encourage all our guests to reuse towels and robes during their stay.

Waste
We recycle 50% of all our waste. We aim to continue to minimise waste generation and
reduce our water consumption wherever possible.

Giving back
We have donated over €300,000 to charity.

Local employment
85% of our team live within 10 kilometres.

Our people
We are dedicated to the support of our teams and value their contributions. We will actively invite our stakeholders to participate in our efforts to protect the environment. All employees will receive the necessary training and resources to meet our environmental objectives. With the SEAI online programme, all staff will be encouraged to complete the course to broaden their knowledge of ways to be sustainable in the workplace and at home.
