If you would like to get out and about to explore you could visit the Slieve Bhan Mountains and discover a wonderful variety of landscapes - blanket bogs, forestry paths, wooded valleys, mountain streams and waterfalls, and old settlement ruins. We have a choice of 16 different Looped Walks, which start and finish from 6 different Trail Heads to suit all levels of fitness with detailed maps and directions. Slieve Bhan mountains is just a 55 minute drive away from Wineport Lodge. Don’t forget to bring a picnic with you and take in the views with a picturesque lunch!
If you are blessed with a sunny visit while visiting Wineport, Lough Boora Discovery Park is a must! Only a 40 minute drive from Wineport, Lough Boora is the perfect place to get fresh air and stretch the legs. From walking routes, fairy trails, bird watching and angling, enjoy the simple things and spend quality time making memories to treasure! This park is perfect for any outdoor enthusiasts, keen botanists, nature lovers, and arts and culture fans!

Borrow a bike from us and discover our local countryside, cycle up to Portlick or head into Athlone to see the sights. Portlick is a 22 minute cycle from Wineport Lodge and has stunning routes through the forest. Make a trip into Athlone and explore the Castle the town was built around and a pint of Guinness in Ireland’s oldest pub, Sean’s Bar. Athlone is 8kms away but is roughly only a 30 minute cycle. Cycle the Old Rail Trail Greenway from Athlone to Mullingar. Located on a disused railway line, this is a ‘must’ cycle for anyone who likes getting out on their bike. This dedicated cycle path follows the old railway track under arched bridges, through a tunnel and past beautiful countryside. With lots of entry and exit points, you can hop on and off to explore the villages and attractions along the way.
Explore the shores of Lough Ree, from captaining your own cruiser for the day to joining one of the many local boat trips, you can enjoy exploring the delights of lovely Lough Ree and the River Shannon.
